Swedish Contemporary Craft Art in Seoul
Jin-Sook So is one of 17 artists selected by the Swedish government to represent the nation at the Korea Foundation Cultural Center Gallery in Seoul from October 6 to the 27th, in the exhibition, Swedish Contemporary Craft Art. Jin-Sook So also served as curator for the exhibition. As the press info for the Korea Foundation notes, "The pop group ABBA, beautiful natural landscapes and a welfare state -- these are the things people most frequently associate with Sweden over the past century. But with the dawn of a new millennium, a new word has come to represent the country: 'design.'" Swedish Contemporary Craft Art will present a selection of the craft work that represents one area of this new Swedish art scene. The focus is on works that involve the reinvention of tradition, harmony with nature, and design connected to nature. Included in the exhibition are narrative objects such as Glorious Wedding, a wedding dress made of male dress shirt lapels, Who Knows?, featuring female faces made from embroidery loops, and the work pictured here, by Jin-Sook So.
