ARTEXTILES: a major survey of British art textiles Bury St Edmunds Gallery 11.75" x 8.25", 47 pages, 1996
The aim of the ArtTextiles (1, 2 & 3) exhibitions at Bury St. Edmunds, UK was to create a democratic and open basis for textile artists to submit work to a national exhibition intended to provide a survey of current practice with a view to stimulating debate.
“ArtTextiles demonstrates a spirit of confidence and discernment the selection that distills an exhibition of 52 works from a submission of nearly 500 produces a very strong brew,” wrote Linda Theophilius of the first exhibition. “This first exhibition has attracted ‘new names’ either recent graduates, or those coming to textiles from other disciplines, or those who only now feel encouraged to show work to a wider public; senior artists to have taken the opportunity to submit work that marks new phases and approaches.”
